Talent Coaches’ perspective – how employers can help young people find their feet at work

Talent Coaches would be the first to admit that induction / probation periods are two-way streets. Ultimately, young people need to create a good impression by showing dedication and professionalism. There are though, simple actions employers can make to give young people every chance to shine.

The world of work can be a confusing place for young people with limited or no experience of the workplace. Implicit rules and behaviours may not be obvious unless explained, and processes / systems for holidays, sickness, pay etc. can be misunderstood, leading to issues that could easily have been avoided.

Talent  Coaches have many years’ experience of providing in-work support to young people and will explain how to make all of the above clear to young people.

Recognising that not all young people arrive with a support worker in the background, this event will leave employers with simple advice that they can build into their inductions with new young starters.

This is an opportunity to hear form these Talent Coaches about the small interventions that can help young people starting their first job which can help them towards a successful probation, and to discuss good practice and challenges they may have faced when working with young people.
